So let us start –

What is Aconite?

Aconite Nap is a plat kingdom medicine derived from the Ranunculaceae family. It is one of the most potent and deadliest poisons.

Even though it is poison, there is no need for you to panic.  Just as the saying goes, only a diamond can cut a diamond; likewise, in homeopathy, we believe in ‘what it causes, it cures.’

Therefore, we use all the remedies in a potentized form to treat the same symptoms that they cause. By potentization, we mean that the medicine is diluted to such an extent that only a trace of it remains back.

The process of potentization is such that the healing properties of the Aconite are activated potently. The more the medicine is potentized, the higher is its power to heal and cure.

You can best use Aconite in the initial phases of an acute condition. You can compare Aconite to a Storm. Just like a storm comes suddenly, shows violent destruction, and only ends abruptly.

Similarly, for any disease condition, which comes suddenly with violent symptoms, you can use Aconite.

Who can use Aconite?

Following are the constitution of a person who can use Aconite –

Since Aconite is a remedy that is mostly used in acute cases, the patient’s physical make-up does not significantly differ.  However, if you are a young person leading a sedentary lifestyle and are prone to liver affections, Aconite is suited to you.

If you have a strong and robust build, but you get affected easily by dry and cold winds, then Aconite is the perfect remedy for you.

Suppose you have traveled to the office on your bike on a cold, windy day, and immediately upon reaching the office, you are attacked by severe and violent sneezing and a splitting headache. In that case, Aconite is what would relive you instantly.

If you happen to know a young girl exposed to an incident that caused severe fear, her period has become irregular.

Then you can recommend a dose of Aconite to her and watch the fear dissipate and the periods reappear.

Aconite Uses

I will take you through all the body parts from toe to head. You can match the symptoms and when you feel these symptoms are matched then you can take Aconite –

Aconite Uses in Mind Symptoms

You can use Aconite if the following mind symptoms are matched with some patient –

Mental anxiety is the most prominent symptom running through this remedy.

People requiring Aconite are too fearful people. They fear that their disease is fatal. The fear is so profound that they even predict the date and time of death. This intense fear of death is very peculiar to Aconite.

They are very anxious and fearful of doing simple things in daily life like socializing with others or even crossing the road. Mental anxiety, restlessness, and fear are the most important symptoms to be seen while prescribing Aconite.

The absence of these symptoms negates the use of Aconite.  Mental calmness and a non-agitated state of mind are the most significant symptoms for prescribing Aconite.

Does this all remind you of someone? Now you know how to handle him next time. Keep a bottle of Aconite pills handy.

Head Complaints

If you notice any of the following symptoms, then you can prescribe Aconite –

The headache is brought on by exposure to drafts of dry cold wind.

The pain is in the frontal region mostly, though Aconite is well-suited to migraines too.

The head feels very heavy and full. The person often describes the pain as if his head would burst. And the contents inside would be pushed out through his forehead.

The pain makes him very restless, and he tosses and turns in bed out of agony. Any attempt to rise leaves his face flushed and too giddy with transient loss of sight and consciousness.

That is is why the Aconite person will keep lying on the bed, tossing and turning around on the bed in pain.

He will tell you he will die because of this headache, and he will tell you the exact time. But he won’t get up to do something about it.

Eyes Complaints

Every time you go out into fresh air or are exposed to dry cold winds, your eyes become red, swollen, and watery.

You may find there is a sensation of heaviness in the eyes. The lids are swollen, stiff, and red.

Ear Complaints

Aconite is indicated in ear infections where the ear is red, hot, and extremely painful to touch.

A person cannot bear the music, and even the slightest touch aggravates it.

You will feel a sensation as if a drop of water is lodged in the left ear.

Nose Complaints

If you are out in the fresh air for a while, and you instantly start with a running nose, Aconite is what will help you.

The fresh air brings on so much sneezing that it leads to pain at the root of the nose. And it may lead to severe nosebleeds where the blood is bright red and in copious amounts.

The characteristic here is that even though there is continuous watering from the nose, the nasal mucus membranes are dry.

Don’t be surprised if your sense of smell is heightened, and then you can feel each scent in a painfully accurate way.

Face Complaints

you may have a fever, and due to this, your face is flushed hot to the touch and appears swollen.

Your cheeks are flushed unequally; often, one cheek is redder than the other.

Any disease affecting the heart is a serious one. The symptoms are not to be taken lightly.

Aconite can be used as a first-line remedy in heart attacks where there is stitching pain in the left shoulder, increased pulse rate, and intense fear.

Respiratory Complaints

The cases that respond well to Aconite are the superficial ones where the disease process is just beginning, and the disease hasn’t localized.

The complaints start Suddenly and Violently.

The person keeps coughing to such an extent that the cough leaves him hoarse.

Severe pain in the chest while coughing; the patient must grab the throat every time he coughs.

Extreme sensitiveness to inhaled air. The cough is worst during the night, specifically post mid-night.

Cough is followed by shortness of breath and stitching pain in the chest.

Stomach & Abdominal Complaints

When you fall sick, there is generally a bitter taste in the mouth, and there is no desire to eat anything. Such is the case with an Aconite person too.

There is a too bitter taste in the mouth; everything except water tastes bitter.

The person is very thirsty and drinks a lot of water. But all the water is vomited out immediately.

The vomitus is bilious, watery, and greenish. Vomiting leads to severe pain in the abdomen and an inability to breathe correctly.

The person vomits, feels drained out, and typically declares he is going to die.

Abdominal pain in an Aconite person is typical of the Burning type.

The colic is too unbearable.

A person tosses and turns in agony, but no position gives him relief.

A bowl of hot soup, however, can do wonders for him.

Rectum Complaints

Going to the bathroom to relieve himself is a too fearful task for the Aconite person.

Every time he passes stools, there is a lot of fresh blood accompanied by burning and pain in the anal region.

The fear of suffering is so much that he often comes out of the toilet with the job half done.

The feeling of not having emptied his bowels is continually bothering him, but he won’t risk going to the toilet due to the fear of pain that will follow inevitably.

In children, Aconite is used for watery diarrhea where there is pain with nightly itching in the anus.

Stools are frequent and appear green, like chopped herbs.

Urinary Complaints

The woman is quite frenzied before the onset of menstruation.

Menses is profuse and bright red and is characteristically accompanied by nosebleed.

Aconite is the best-suited remedy for young, plethoric girls whose menstruation has been suppressed after a frightful incident.

The arms are heavy, numb, hot, and painful.

Joints are shiny red, swollen, and inflamed, and the pain is worse at night and by the slightest touch.

The hands show bright red hypothenar eminences.

Icy cold legs with hot hands during fever are crucial points to be noted while choosing Aconite in fever.

Fever Complaints

Aconite is the perfect remedy for the first stage of fever.

Fever is characterized by inflammation, where the disease has just begun and is yet to localize.

Fever is brought on by exposure to drafts of cold, dry wind or by suppression of emotions.

The febrile state is seen with a flushed face, icy cold feet, and hot arms. There are tachycardia and palpitations.

The person is agitated, tosses and turns in agony, and is sure he will die.

During any disease condition, the person appears flushed with bright red skin.

Skin is full of measles-like eruptions.

There is intense itching, and the itch only goes if the person has a refreshing drink like strong coffee or a whiskey shot.

Key Note Symptoms for Prescribing Aconite

If you are confused about when to select Aconite, then the keynote symptoms will guide you.

If any of the following symptoms match, then you can use Aconite.

Acute, Sudden, and Violent. These three words sum up a condition when you can suggest Aconite. For example-you eat an ice-cream in the morning, and by afternoon you have severe throat pain, swollen tonsils, continuous sneezing, severe headache.

Headache is so terrible that you feel that your brain may burst out through your skull. If you find that these symptoms are getting increased with time, then you can use Aconite.

Aconite is a simple remedy. The disease conditions are not well-settled and are not severe enough to damage any organs. If we go by the earlier example, the disease will stay in the upper respiratory tract, and the symptoms will be like sneezing, headache, throat pain, etc.

If the disease condition reaches the lungs and causes productive cough, secondary bacterial infection, or maybe even pneumonia, Aconite is not the right remedy.

This is best suited to the congestion stage of all diseases before localization occurs or the condition gets settled in.

Fear and anxiety accompany every symptom. Even the most trivial disease condition will make the patient very restless and fearful.

You may have a friend who thinks that even his minor ailment will prove fatal to him, and he is always in a state of tension. He is terrified that he will die because he has been sneezing since morning, then Aconite is the remedy for him.

Your colleague missed the last bus home, and you decided to give her a lift, and the next day she calls that she is sick. Do you wonder what happened? She was an Aconite patient who fell violently sick after being exposed to the dry cold wind while riding a pillion on your bike. Even she is terrified that she is going to die by the evening, do not panic.

This is well suited to the complaints that occur Suddenly and Violently.

The slightest exposure to cold air may bring on severe respiratory conditions.

Don’t we all have that one friend who we think is extremely sensitive? A small cut or a scrape and the extreme agony that he projects is almost funny? That fellow could require Aconite.

Unbearable pains are another hallmark of Aconite. The person screams with pain and cannot tolerate even the slightest touch. The pains drive him crazy and make him restless and anxious.

The patient tosses and turns in bed with unbearable pain. The pain is always associated with numbness of the affected area.

While rising from a recumbent position, the face, which was flushed, and bright red, becomes ghostly pale.

The patient gets so giddy that he fears to rise again. The giddiness is accompanied by transient loss of sight and unconsciousness.

All the sufferings of a patient are brought upon by exposure to drafts of dry, cold air.

Relationship with Food

The effects of Aconite are compromised by consuming acidic things like lemonade, wine, coffee, and citrus fruits.

Vinegar antidotes the effect of Aconite completely.

Relationship with Other Homeopathic Medicines

Aconite Complementary Medicines

Complementary medicines can also be called Helper medicines.

They come into play after the primary remedy and help in finishing up the work.

Often Sulphur is used as a chronic follow-up remedy to an acute Aconite.

Homeopathic medicines that follow well with Aconite-

Belladonna, Bryonia, Coffea, Pulsatilla, Sepia, Silicea, Rhustox are some of the remedies that can take up the work after Aconite has cleared the mess and brought out a clearer picture.

Aconite Antidotes-

Acetic Acid, Belladonna, Berberis, Nux vomica are to be avoided after Aconite.

They will antidote Aconite’s actions bringing all the symptoms back in the same, if not aggravated, state.

Aconite Dosage

The potency is best decided upon the patient’s presenting state, the onset of the disease, duration of the disease, and the current pathophysiology.

The presence of keynote symptoms on general and mind level are all factors that go into deciding the dosage and repetition of selected potency.

This is indicated in acute conditions, which warrants the use of 200 potencies or higher potencies with frequent repetition.

For sensory affections, the sixth potency is indicated.

For congestive conditions, the first to the third potency is best suited.

Aconite 30 Dosage

You need to take 2 drops or 6 pills – 3 times a day if the above symptoms are matched.

Aconite 200 Dosage

You need to take 2 drops or 6 pills – once a day.

Aconite 1M Dosage
